Essential Services

What Are Our Essential Services

01

NHS Prescriptions

We dispense NHS prescriptions, both electronic and paper, and offer advice on medicines and proper storage.

We also provide Repeat Dispensing—contact us for details. Only order what you need. Keep your details current each time you order, especially your exemption status and delivery address, as an outdated exemption can result in a £100 NHS fine.

02

Repeat Dispensing

If your regular medicines don’t change, your GP may switch you to electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD)—prescriptions sent electronically to your chosen pharmacy for delivery or collection. Issued as numbered batches (e.g. 1 of 6), dispensed at regular intervals, first supply within six months, then up to one year.

You cannot collect from Medpharm. If we receive your prescription before 3pm we will usually process this and dispatch to you the same day.

03

Discharge Medicine Service

With your consent, we’re informed of any medicine changes made during your hospital stay, so we can advise and support you afterward. We can also liaise with the hospital and your GP if needed—ask us for more details.

04

Safe Storage & Disposal

Store medicines as manufacturers advise, at the right temperature and away from children/pets. Most keep at room temperature; some (like insulin, eye drops) need refrigeration—check labels.

Only order what you need, and return excess or expired medicines to us for safe disposal.

05

Record Keeping

We keep records of your prescriptions and services, and may consult NHS summary care or shared care records to support your treatment and check for issues like drug interactions. We comply with data protection and NHS confidentiality rules—speak to staff to discuss your records.

06

Advice for Healthy Living & Self-Care

Our pharmacist and trained staff offer private advice on medicines, minor ailments, and healthy living—like stopping smoking or diet tips. Our health champion can help with wellbeing goals, and we’ll signpost you to other services if we can’t help directly.

When we are closed?

When the pharmacy is closed, if you need urgent (but not life-threatening) medical help or advice, call NHS 111 or visit www.nhs.uk for information.

Abuse, Threats or Violence to our staff

Our staff work hard to provide you with the best possible service—please treat them with courtesy and respect. We may refuse service to individuals, or those accompanying them, who are violent, threatening, or engaged in criminal behaviour.

Complaints

If you would like more information about any of the services we provide, please ask a member of staff or telephone the number on the front of this leaflet. Our aim is to give the highest possible standard of service. Please tell us what you think about the service we provide at this pharmacy and any ways in which you think we can improve our services to you. If you have any comments, suggestions or complaints, please speak to a member of staff.

We operate a complaints procedure as part of the NHS system for dealing with complaints. Our system meets national criteria. Our pharmacist will give you further information about this.
